Lord Agasthia

LORD AGASTHIA – Incarnation of Sri Agasthia Maharishi
All living creatures in this universe are enjoying their living because of the availability of good food, water, air, etc.., but we do not know as to who has given these basic things to us. Here comes Sri Agasthia Maharishi whose introduction is unique and is mainly responsible for creation of food. He has been a part of Lord Shiva and he has been made the chief of Siddhars by Lord  Shiva due to his purity of soul, punniya and bhakthi.

Sri Agasthia Maharishi
Thiruvaikavur

Agasthia Maharishi is eternal before creation of the universe. Lord Shiva  called Asha Suvashini Devi created by Lord Shiva and ordered her to create plants in earth  in order to provide food to fishes,  birds and other living creatures. She has made a collection of good things caused by devas, maharishis, ghandarvas, etc who have been selfless, pure, divineful etc.. She has prayed Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu to convert the collection of good things into a form and because of Lord Shiva and Vishnu they themselves formed as rice due to other good things as existed and added power to it, thus rice and other products viz. straw, bran, husk etc.. had become stable food for many living creatures.  Further to increase rice in large quantity and other plants etc.. as per Devi Asha Suvashini’s appeal at the behest of Lord Shiva, she placed the paddy in the hands of Lord Agasthia which has grown to a leap of paddy in large quantity. This is just a tip of Aagasthiar’s  greatness  and hence he is considered to be an  avatar of Lord Shiva and He is given to universe as Leader of Siddhars . All plants show the gratitude and respect to Agasthiar and we get the fullest benefit  of any plant by chanting “Om Sri Agasthayah Namah” before its use.

Amudha Tharaigal

Each part of our body has separate devathas and at morning  or at any  time of brushing we must use middle finger next to Index finger where Lord Saturn exists and thus use of middle finger will please Saturn and get his blessings and we must pray for  such blessings during brushing our teeth. For brushing use a brush with fibre in thilak form, which will be pleasing to Lord Saturn and will give you long life due to His blessings.
Mangala Gandharva Guru Mandala Lokam
All Siddhars are eternal as they are part of Lord Shiva and they’re in universe to uplift the spiritual life of all creatures in the universe. Siddhars belongs to different guru mandala lokam and one such being is  mangala ghandharva mandala  lokam. We’re now focusing on mangala ghandharva guru mandala lokam  as our Gurunathar Sri-la-Sri Venkatarama Swamigal, Mangala Guru Ghandharva and His Gurunathar Sri-la-Sri Idiyappa Siddhar, both are from mangala ghandharva mandala lokam.
Mangala Guru Ghandharva Sathgurus are determining on the course of nature of prayer, like chanting astothiram, sahasranamam etc. during many festivals namely Makara shankaranthi, Kumbha mela, vaikunda ekadesi, maha sivarathiri etc.. in all lokhas and as well as in  kailash, vaikundam etc… In this process our Gurunathar Sri-la-Sri Idiyappa Siddhar and Venkatarama Swamigal are  predominant in devotion to Sakthi devi goddess and they are ardent worshippers of Devi Sri Angala Prameswari, we pray and worship both of them ever for their blessings. Our Sivaguru Mangala Ghandharva Sri-la-Sri Idiyappa Siddhar has been titled as Idiyappa Siddhar as He is eternal and since His beginning and end aren’t  known like idiyappam. Idiyappam is a south Indian food circled over by layers (each  layer over layer finally couldn’t able to see the top or bottom of it.) it represents the definition of Siddhars as their beginning and end are not identifiable.

Agamarshna Maharishi

Once from Lord Shiva’s and Parvathi devi’s intention  two light forms came to be known as viyati pranavam and samasti pranavam circled around in all lokams very fast with an astonishing speed.  While seeing it devas and maharishis approached Lord Vinayagar and requested for His blessings, as they did not know the reason for such speed of these pranavams circling and Lord Vigneshwara released Agamarshana Maharishi from his naabi and this Maharishi with his spiritual power created a symbol in between the revolutions of those viyati and samati prayanavams. It formed as symbol  “உ” which is called as Pillaiyar suzhi
This is how Pillaiyar suzhli is known and practiced by everyone of us before beginning of any activities or events. This Pillaiyar suzhli shows  respect and tribute to Agamarshana Maharishi, as he has given his spiritual power for creation activity and we must pray this Maharishi before commencement of any act like art, literature, painting etc.., by which Lord Vigneswara will bless us success in our all moves in our routine life.  With due respect and pranams to Agamarshana Maharishi commences SRI AGASTHIA VIJAYAM with Lord Vigneswara’s blessings.

Signficance of Annadhanam

The significance of annadhanam is highlighted by our Sathguru Sri-La-Sri  Venkatarama Swamigal. Annadhanam means free distribution of the holy pradasad of Divinity. The annadhanam food becomes more pure and spiritual when the holy Ganga water is used for food preparation and, when  the water is further spiritually purified by getting heated  and it becomes more pure than the hot water that comes from Hills Gomukhi, the place were the ganga starts and runs through the earth. The name “Gomukhi” it represents is seen in temple through which the abhisheka water is released. The annadhanam  which cooked with such a pure holy water like ganga, kaveri etc., attaines a divine state and gives full benefits to the receivers of prasadam.
Likewise, annadhanam will be more effective, when it is done for certain specific purpose in a specific temple. And thulasi, vibhuthi, theertham etc. of those temples prasadams which enables God’s blessings in addition for better cure. Athma Vicharam

Question  (based on introspection ) by a Devotee and answer by our Sathguru Venkatarama Swamigal
Question :-  During Krishna avathar why rasa leela was done by Lord Krishna ?
Answer :  Lord Krishna during Krishna avatar entertained gopika ladies  by singing, dancing in water and on land which is considered rasa leela. To the eyes of common people gopika sthrees looked as beautiful girls, but for Lord Krishna it was a setting of His devotees during His Rama avatar. Many rishis during Rama avatar wished to have darshan of Lord Rama and have physical touch of Him. Since the rishis were required to do penance continuously  and Lord Rama couldn’t seem them, except a few like Agasthia Maharishi, Baradhwaja Maharishi, Sabari  etc… due to various incidents during Ramayanam like kishkinda kaandam, sundara kaandam, yutha kaandam.. Kaandam refers to a period during which few events took place.
Rama could not see many rishis as wished by them.  At the time of yudha kaandam during the war with Ravanan, Lord Rama’s brother Lakshmanan fell unconscious. Lord Rama at that time got Agasthia Maharishi's darshan. And Agasthiar intiated  Lord Rama with aditya hirudhayam a slogam on Lord sun. Agasthia maharishi at that time wanted Lord Rama to give his darshan and to fulfill their desire of physical touch by Rama during treda yuga to which Lord Rama agreed.  Then Agasthia Maharishi reminded Lord Rama that still there are many rishis who couldn’t come there due to their penance in forest and enquired Lord Rama whether it was possible for Rama during his Rama avatar to give His darshan.
Lord Rama felt sad for not being able to satisfy the wishes of many rishis  and hence requested Agasthia Maharishi to suggest ways for the fulfillment of their wishes to which Agasthia Maharishi ordained that both Rama and Krishna are avatars of Lord Narayana and all  rishis  were aware of it. All these rishis will take re-birth as gopika sthrees during dwapara yuga during Krishna avathar and they will have the enjoyment to the maximum with Lord Krishna. This was the main reason for the rasaleela. Thus due to purna avathar of Lord Rama and Krishna many rishis who have become gopika sthrees have attained all  full happiness physically and mentally  as  the fulfillment of their desire.

The Little Lad and the Royal King

Happiest reminiscences of our Gurunathar Venkatarama Swamigal with His Gurunathar Sri-la-sri Idiyappa Siddha Esa Swamigal. Our Gurunathar Sri Venkatarama Swamigal portraits  Himself as a slave to God and his Gurunathar. We are all in a way  slave to God  and our Gurunathar has portrait as slave  shares with us his reminiscences with His Gurunathar which have given knowledge, spiritual power, spiritual light etc.
His Gurunathar’s speaking has been a source of knowledge, experience, guidance etc. to spiritual life, who is the slave who got happiness before 35years back approximately.
Kanchi Mutt Kamakodi Peedathipathy Sri Chandrasekharendra Swamigal who was accepted as ripened fruit in spiritual field by siddhars.   Kanchi Periyavar was camping at Kamakshi amman temple in Royapuram Chennai.
An 80 year old man just with a lungod  (i.e. a small piece of cloth in his waist)  sitting always at Sri Angalamman temple Royapuram, Chennai called a seven years old small boy dressed in half-pant and ordered him to rush and get something from Kanchi Periyavar.

The boy was afraid because of his torn and dirty dress  and at the same time he was afraid as to what this old man would do if he not listen to his order. He rushed to Kanchi Periyavar’s camping place where due to heavy crowd the boy entered through the rear way from where he could see Kanchi Periyavar talking to few people. The boy was terribly afraid and he himself was asking as to who was this person and why our old man has asked something from this man. Confusingly he was hiding behind a thulasi plant and was watching Periyava talking to others  and the boy was still worried as the time was passing on and he was hiding   behind the thulasi plant in a very fearlfull manner. Kanchi Periyava suddenly arose from his seat and was moving towards this boy's place with thulasi mala, vilva and rudhraksha mala etc.
The people who were waiting for his darshan thought that Periyavar was going for some pooja purpose and hence he was not disturbed. Looking at Periyava who was nearing, this boy smiled with his folded hands  and he thought at this he was offering shodashopachara puja ( sixteen stages of pooja) unknowingly. Periyava removed few thulasi leaves on his head and neck and gave them to this boy and told him to leave the place before others could notice. The boy jumped the wall and ran away. Since his half-pant was torn, he was holding the thulasi prashad tightly in his hands to give them to the old man sitting at Sri Angalamman temple. The old man pretended as if nothing was known to him and invited his boy and asked whether Periyavar has given any thing. The boy as a hero replied that it was a great task to get this prasadam.
To which the old man asked the boy sarcastically, ''Oh .. have you asked for it and got ?” The boy agreed that Periyavar had himself given him the prasad realizing that no lie can be told to this old man. The old man started eating the tulasi leaves one by one by enjoying it as he was explaining to the boy that the tulsi leaves  were like amirtham. The boy was astonished  as the old man was never accepting anything from others, but he was enjoying these tulsi leaves. The boy was eager to get at least one tulsi leaf to enjoy the feel of amirtham . The old man took the last leaf of tulsi, stared at the boy who was eagerly thinking that it was for him but the old man put that leaf also in his mouth and told the boy calmly that bringing the prashad was the boy's destiny and consuming them was his karma and both are fulfilled.
"Why are you so greedy?"  asked the old man. But the boy started crying as he could not get what he wanted. Realizing his displeasure  the old man hugged the boy as if consoling  him and split saliva in to the boy's mouth. A transfer of happiness, spirituality etc. and the feel of amirtham took place by this act between them.
The boy knew no bounds of extreme happiness by the old man's kindness. Thus by such small incident our Gurunathar Venkatarama Swamigal has got knowledge, gnanam , spiritual teachings etc., and hence he portrait himself ever as a slave who got happiness from his Gurunathar.
The old man who is referred above  is none but his Gurunathar Siva mangalaguru Gandarva Idiyappa Siddha and the boy is our Sri venkatarama Swamigal. With their blessings the episode titled   “The Little Lad and The Royal King“ will continue in our monthly edition of our Sri Agasthiya Vijayam.
